Taj Mahal Quartet
**Rain or Shine**
"Taj Mahal is one of the most versatile bluesmen around, having tackled country blues, R&B, jazz, gospel, reggae and more..." -All About Jazz
"...Mahal is a master of roping in the audience to await every subtle nuance he unfolds throughout his performances, both vocally and instrumentally. " -Marquee Mag
Taj Mahal and his Quartet are coming back to the Payomet tent, and we are already excited for his performance! Grammy Award-winner Taj Mahal's resume includes working with such renowned artists as Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Muddy Waters and the Rolling Stones during his 50+ year career.
A bonafide blues and rock legend, the inimitable Taj Mahal has been instrumental in preserving and shaping American roots music. With his booming baritone, nimble finger-picking guitar playing and pioneering fusion of blues with disparate world and folk styles, the iconic artist has earned himself a place amongst the titans of American music.
Last year Taj Mahal accepted the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album with his friend and collaborator, Keb’ Mo’ and they performed together at the ceremony.
“What inspires me most about my career is that I’ve been able to make a living playing the music that I always loved and wanted to play since the early ’50s,” Taj Mahal says. “And the fact that I still am involved in enjoying an exciting career at this point in time is truly priceless. I’m doing this the old fashioned way and it ain’t easy…”
